BERNSTEIN & SONDHEIM concert is a sell-out!

May 11th, 2008

On Saturday evening, June 7th, the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater was packed with enthusiastic Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim aficionados for our final performance of the 2007-08 season. Guest soprano artist Amanda Gosier, and a 16-member children’s chorus who performed selections from Bernstein’s Peter Pan and Sondeim’s Into The Woods, joined the fifty-member chorus. The chorus will return to the Kennedy Center in May of 2009 for Fresh Currents: Songs of the New Millennium, a concert featuring new works by some of today’s hottest young choral composers.

Success! “Night at the Speakeasy” Sellout Performances and Silent Auction

April 11th, 2008

Our cabarets and related silent auction on March 8-9 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center were fully sold out. Both shows demonstrated the spirit, talents and artistry that mark our performances.

Our patrons say it best:

“The energy and enthusiasm were terrific. The performance was a lot of fun. We had a really great time, and I’m so glad you invited us.” [audience member Saturday night]

“Part of the enjoyment was seeing what a good time the Chorus seemed to be having.” [member of audience on Sunday]

“Best arrangement I’ve ever heard of ‘Stardust.’ ” [member of the audience on Sunday who played saxophone in a jazz band in 1940-50s]

“ ‘Sheik of Araby’ was hilarious. I can’t get the tune out of my head.” [female audience member’s e-mail 24 hours later]

The audience enjoyed the singing of 41 men and women, jazz accompaniment by 6 players of 8 instruments, dancing of 6 members of the Erika Thimey Dance and Theater Company, all made more enjoyable by a cash bar, complimentary salty nibbles and gourmet desserts. The silent auction offered a variety of goods and services, from art works to weekend retreats to massage therapy, financial counseling, theater tickets, and piano lessons. We are most gratified by the proceeds that will help us launch our youth chorus and cover other operating costs.
